Layout design

Good content can be completely lost in badly designed pages or wrong fonts. The inside of a book has to be pleasant in viewing and easy on the eye. Laying out the text interior of a novel can be a challenging and tedious process with no margin for errors. The last thing an author wants to do after all the writing they accomplished is to figure out how to lay it out effectively for printing. Each book needs to be laid out based on the content for example a coffee table book is not just about the pictures. How the images are arranged and captioned make a difference between a beautiful book and an ordinary album.

We DO NOT FORMAT your book in a word processing software like Microsoft Word. We design it in specialized publishing software. This involves making your manuscript print-ready which means font selection, margins, incorporation of images, table of contents, and copyright information amongst others. The result is a clean, print friendly and an industry standard output. If tomorrow you decide to go with offset publishing you need not change the book design.

What you need to do

• Give a complete final draft of your book in an electronic file, including dedication, acknowledgement, contents page, introduction, chapter heads, footnotes, bibliography etc. wherever applicable. It should be thoroughly edited and corrections made. We will print only what is given to us. We do not make any additions or deletions to the manuscript.
• Choose book size and the paper you want to use for the inside of your book. Check our price calculator for size and paper options.
• If any photos, boxes, charts, graphs, maps etc are to be used they should be marked in correct places in the manuscript and high resolution images provided along with these. If you want these images to be created you can check our special services.

What we will do

• We will design the first chapter of your book and submit it to you for review. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback on elements, such as the fonts chosen, the spacing between the lines, chapter heads and indents.
• After you have approved the sample, we will proceed along the same lines with the rest of the book.
• After the book is completed, you will have another opportunity to review the book in PDF format and point out any design corrections. If you require printouts they will be charged extra. INR 10 per page for black & white and INR 15 for coloured printouts. Outstation courier charges (Outside National Capital Region) will be as applicable.
• Suggested changes/corrections at this point will not include addition/deletion of text or images, etc. Such changes will incur additional charges.
• After all changes have been incorporated, a high resolution PDF version of the book will be prepared for printing.
