Why self-publish?

You might wonder that when there are so many publishing houses around why you would self-publish. Your reading this is proof enough that the traditional way is not for you. Self-publishing works for the following reasons:

• No waiting to hear from the publisher. Publishers are swamped with manuscripts. You may have to wait months or even years before an editor looks at your work. Most will need a referral to grant you an audience. When you self-publish you are ready to begin the process as soon as you are done writing.
• No rejection. Traditional publishers will only take on those books which they see making a profit. So if you are writing something that has limited commercial prospects like poetry, experimental fiction, graphic novels, books targeting specific group etc. then self-publishing is the way for you. We do not interfere with your work. We simply assist you to publish. Though we may make friendly suggestions sometimes, you have the prerogative to reject them.
• If you are an established name in your area of expertise e.g. you are a motivational speaker or you hold management workshops, then this is the way to provide add-on material for your seminars.
• If you want to promote your business or organization, self-publishing is the way to go.
• You want to keep all rights to your work. Traditional publishers retain rights of what they publish and you do not have control over how, when and in what number they publish your work. Since you have all rights you can choose to go to a mainstream publisher if your book does well or release it online.
• You can use your logo if you are a brand or an organization.
• You control the end product. Since you are a part of all aspects of pre-publishing i.e. editing and designing you choose what your book looks like.
• You decide the number of copies to be printed. Traditional publishers retain the rights and so decide on the number of copies. They may not print further copies even if there is a demand in the market. Since self-publishing uses POD technology you can print as few or as many books you want without comprising on the quality.
• You decide the cost of your book. After deducting the cost for printing services you can add your own mark-up to your book. Allow for 40 percent for the distributor and then price your book.
